Change Over Time

Change is constant.  As this project changes as it visually explores pressing issues of environmental instability. It questions timeless human themes of change and the desire for that which offers the illusion of control. I document the weathering and erosion of the Sussex coast through the medium of film and stills photography catalogued by location and date. This creates a complete and beautiful archive of change over the decades.

The production of `change-sets’ involves the selection of a series of photographs. The series illustrates how, the post top’s position in the inter-tidal zone, changes the appearance of the individual post top.

The selection of sets of images relates not only to the original observation and photographs of the post top but also to the process of drawing around the post top. I identify objects that may be initially obscured or blurred by the background shapes and colours of the pebbles on the beach. The method of processing the image changes the way I see it. It is the decision of what to include and what to exclude that make these images personal – `the beholder’s eye’.

More images from this project are in  Waveworn and additional photographs can be found on my Facebook page.
