Using Photoshop I use a lasso tool to make my `edge decision’. I work at a 300% scale. At this magnification, a projection from the edge of the post top appears to be the same shape and size as the pebbles that make up the background image.
I produce an ellipse around any unclear shape and it is my choice whether to keep it as part of the edge or discard it. I chose to keep it. Viewed later I identified it as the head of a nail which I had not seen at the time.

Through this process, I bring back from the shadow a clarity of colour and texture that can be lost utilising just the technology of the camera. I am processing the image to return it to what I originally saw on the beach.

The Waveworn Gallery shows completed work taken from the Intervention project. Photographs relating to this project can be found on my Facebook page.
